Book Orders and Book Whisperer...a Freebie *Updated file

I finally read The Book Whisperer in its entirety last week. I downloaded it to my Kindle one morning and finished by midnight! I even read it with my students during reading time. What an inspiration, reaffirmation, and motivation for me! I'm sure you felt the same way if you've read it. If not, you know what to do!

.

Yesterday after school, I was pulling apart February Scholastic Arrow flyers and inspiration struck. I recalled Donalyn Miller's approach to teaching genre. My book club sales this year have been, shall we say, not-so-stellar. What better way to practice our new knowledge of genre and {hopefully} increase book club orders than to do a genre hunt? I dusted off my copy of Fountas and Pinnell's Guiding Readers and Writers from college and busily created the sheet below. I completely forgot how great this book is as a resource for me.

This is probably not the most original idea, but wanted to share my freebie. Click on the image above to download in Google Docs. The formatting appears a little messed up, but it opened correctly in Word. I plan to try this out with my class and let you know what happens! Wish me luck! Feel free to use it with your students and leave some feedback, please : )

  1. Just letting you know the format didn't save correctly for us because of the fonts you used. Try saving it as a pdf! I need to read this "Book Whisperer". I keep seeing it everywhere.
