Change and opportunity

My poor little neglected blog!

Long story short...I took another job teaching 4th grade this past school year. I learned more than I can put into words. I transformed how I was teaching. I also decided to leave the classroom.

Whaaaaaat???

This happened for several personal and professional reasons.

On the bright side, I found a new job that I absolutely LOVE!! I'm lucky because it involves all the things I love about teaching (interacting with kids, having fun, being creative, seeing them "get it"), without the headaches (paperwork, lesson plans, insane amounts of testing, going to meetings). Do I have your attention now?  : )

I'm working for VIPKID as an online ESL teacher, teaching kids in China how to speak English from the comfort of my laptop. I choose when I want to work. I make about $20 an hour. I don't have to write lesson plans. I get to wear orange and not have to think about what to wear. I have a blast every day!!!

This is a part time job and I was teaching classes while finishing out the school year. Full-time teachers, substitute teachers, retired teachers, moms...you can do this, too! If you have questions, please-please-please ask me. If you're interested in finding out more, here is my referral link: http://teacher-recruitment.vipkid.com.cn/home.shtml?refereeId=1499477
and the VIPKID blog:  http://blog.vipkid.com.cn/

Give it a try. You never know what could happen.

Have you seen this?! Changed my life today : ) It may seem obvious, but my mind was blown.

One of my fourthies was having some trouble subtracting and I found this alternate strategy in Teaching Student-Centered Math. Just a quick share!

Currently and Classroom Pics

Currently, I have a few minutes to blog!
Thanks to Farley for the fun each month!
My new job keeps me hopping, which is a great thing.
I'm teaching 4th and 5th grade Reading and Math.

The only one that needs explaining is moving...hubby and I would like to move into his grandmother's old house. It's in a beautiful little town and only a ten minute commute to work for me.
That would make my heart very happy!

Here are a few pictures of my new classroom home. This is the view from the door. I like having tables instead of desks. The rug is our gathering area. LOVE my large windows!!

Sorry so blurry :(
Faith Wheeler's CAFE board, Technology Rocks printables, and
I added a new homework board {Living, Laughing, & Loving}this week.

Class library and READ letters.
I need LOTS of books because I see groups of 4th and 5th graders for Reading.
Maybe I can hit up some garage sales today!
But that would mean more labeling : )

9 computers in my room! How lucky am I?!

My corner with book recommendations on the shelf in front of my desk.
Do you recognize any titles? :)

Pretty flowers along the sidewalk at school.

Any suggestions or ideas for upper elementary math?
Organization...games...teaching tips...must-haves?
Math is still pretty new to me, so any advice is much appreciated!

Enjoy your day off! Happy September!
(and Happy College Football Season, too!)
